Wiki Reflection

Task

To prepare a Wiki for classroom instruction

Over view

The wiki I created is for use as a resource in my EDPM class. I inserted a page that contains the topics covered in the syllabus, one with the evaluations that the students will complete and one where they can find links and reviews on useful resources. For each unit the evaluations will be added at the appropriate time

Classroom application

The home page will be constantly updated with information from the topic that is currently being taught. For each topic there will be links to resources and suggestions of books and videos to assist. Students will be able to log on to the site at the beginning of classes when working in groups or on individual assignments in none tutorial / lecture sessions to encourage discovery learning

Challenges

I created my wiki account and then took three days to figure out how to edit the page. Having more time i could have created original resources to add to the site though i did try and incorporate items from previous learning tools. 

Improvement

More original material could have been added and when used as an instructional tool original material will be created and uploaded to cater to the specific needs of the students.

Movie Maker Reflection

Task

To create a movie for classroom instruction.

Over view

Movie maker is software that allows amateurs to created video presentations that look professional.
The piece I created is a summary for the unit on Intellectual Property and copy rights . It is a compilation of the main terms as a reflection for the students.


Classroom Application

In the classroom a video can serve many purposes at the beginning middle or end of a lesson. This video will be used at the end of the unit ( as the introduction for the last lesson) as reinforcement of the key terms that need to be considered in studying for the test and for everyday student life.

Challenges

1. The movie maker software that was on my system did not work because of an existing program that was hindering it. I still have not found that program . I had to solicit the help of a friend to uninstall and re install an older version of movie maker.
2.  I then had to save pictures after going through hundreds to find the appropriate ones for this exercise,
3. To get the audio I had to download several  down loaders which did not work. I then had to seek advice on how to download without a down loader  since none of the music in my files was appropriate for the piece.
4. The hours that it required to set the audio and video in perfect timing harmony were not available
5. My color blindness hindered the use of more appropriate colors or the keeping of as theme with the colors on the captions

Improvements

The transitions could be timed better with the music and the color of the captions on the pictures.

In the classroom wiki's are an excellent way to summarize or introduce topics.
 It is a place where notes can be placed for students perusal and links to reputable, helpful sites related to the subject area can be placed there when sending students on web quests or other discovery learning adventurers. This places control in the classroom where the type of information the student is exposed to during class time can be limed thus reducing concomitant learning.
